So doing a drawing portfolio instead of a photography portfolio could be described as a completely different yet all the same stressful experience. I got a canvas about a day into summer with the determination to paint a giraffe. I then stalled, procrastinated, and fooled around for basically all of June, July and half of August. Then panic started to set in. I finished my last 7 pieces over the course of two days. I enjoyed doing a drawing portfolio but I had a hard time with just doodling. It's odd but I have a problem with every art piece I do that I want to make it huge, colorful, intense to the point of it literally opening people's jaws. So when it comes to doodling and doing simple line drawings, it's basically impossible to shock someone with a little sketch. I also have a problem of centering my paintings which is quite obvious. I also painted on my best friends naked body which was kind of awesome and I really like how it turned out. I was kind of skeptical at first because I had to use crayons washable finger paint, but I think it came together well.

Dear future AP 2-D student,
I would strongly recommend choosing a concentration that you are passionate about from example, something with substance or hidden meaning that resonates with you. Otherwise, when you hit the wall of frustration that hits around piece 11, you are going to have no will whatsoever to continue. I would also recommend not waiting to the last minute to do paintings. The best feeling in art class, is coming to a critique with two pieces that a you spent time on and are proud of. Also using class time helps minimize the amount of work you have to do at home when all you feel like doing is sleeping.
Sincerely, Kelsey

What is the central idea of your concentration?
The central idea of my concentration is a focus on lips and mouths with an emphasis on color and texture.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers.
My pieces are all paintings of lips deconstructed and put back together or multiplied.

My concentration is distorting lips/mouths with an emphasis on texture. At this point I feel like I need to go back to at least half of my paintings and add more to them. I feel like I am going to go in the direction of making the lips kind of creepy and layering in more texture. I want to start to use different color palettes like cool colors instead of warm. At this point I'm kind of uneasy because I really just want to go back and change a lot of my paintings to make them look more developed.
This one is not my least favorite but all of my paintings are at school so I couldn't take a picture of them. My least favorite would be my smallest one of someone screaming with a purple background. With this painting though, I hate the colors that I used. I want to go back in and put some dark purples and blues into the lips. Do you think that would be a mistake?

Concentration
My concentration is painting lips/mouths in acrylic paints focusing on texture and color. I think I am going to start focusing on a darker pallet inside of lighter colors.

Poster Poster
That is my sponsor in the background and that creepy white blob in the corner is me. We didn't have anyone to take our picture for us so I had to take it. It's creepy... I know.

My concentration
My concentration is expressions found in mouths. It will probably morph into something else but I really like painting and drawing mouths and lips so that what I'm sticking with. I am currently finishing to paint this picture but I'm only using it as a rough guide:
